Fred Astaire.  Gene Kelly.  When you think of the great dancers of black and white movies, there’s always one common thread: they all knew how to Tap dance.  It’s a classy dance, one that’s great for developing rhythm and keeping your heart in good shape.

Another one of the things that makes Tap great is that it’s open to all ages and skills levels.  There’s no extraordinary amount of flexibility or strength required to dance Tap well; it’s a welcoming genre.  Interested? Try one of our free classes.

Tap Is Perfect For You If…

  • You want to develop better posture, a stronger core, and a flatter stomach
  • You’re developing your own sense of rhythm and want to keep making it stronger
  • You don’t always want to be tied down to dancing with a partner
  • You love the classic dancers and big band music (although you can Tap to hip-hop and other modern music, too!)

Tap FAQ

Eventually, yes.  At the very beginning?  No.  Get the hang of it first, and then look into getting tap shoes (or modifying a pair that you have).

Practice, practice, practice!  You can get there too, but it’s going to take work and dedication.  If you’re serious about Tap, you’ll want to invest in a practice mat so that you can work on your footwork at home.

Once you have a basic knowledge of Tap, there’s a lot of vocabulary to be gained in videos on YouTube and such.  However, they can’t critique your technique or show you how to surmount a particular challenge that you face.  For that, you need a teacher.
